IBA PROFIT REPORT 2103

PREPARING AN EMPLOYEE POLICY GUIDE

For most small businesses with employees, it is very important for them to have a CORRECTLY written Employee Policy Guide to protect the owner from various claims of discrimination, harassment, etc.  No Employee Policy Guide can open a small business owner for often successful lawsuits for claims of harassment because the business does not have an anti-harassment policy as required by law.  Incorrectly written Employee Policy Guides can often create more harm than good.  For example, if an Employee Policy Guide has a probation period for new employees, this one provision is likely to eliminate the owner's right to discharge that or any other employee "at will".  A probation period often results in the owner only be able to discharge the employee for "cause", not "at will."

IBA members have access to an outstanding opportunity to get a customized Employee Policy Guide prepared for their business by an attorney who focuses his entire law practice on employment law issues.  This attorney works for some of the largest companies in and outside Washington State.  IBA members who have used this program have been extremely pleased with the service and final document prepared for their business.
